The Strategic Development Program implemented under the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities has commenced its development works in the following cities, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna and Anuradhapura. Under the Kandy City Development Project, Land Acquisition works have been completed for the development of the Katugasthota Madawala Digana road. Rs. 314.425 million has been paid as compensation and allowances for 991 plots of land under the LARC and the Super LARC methods. , The acquisition of these lands have been conducted by the Divisional Secretariats of Pathadumbara, Kundasale and Gangavatakoralaya as per the Land Acquisition Act No9 of 1950

The Strategic Cities Development Programme is an Government Initiative under the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities with Sri Lanka’s urban vision to develop the secondary cities as a system of competitive, environmentally sustainable and well -linked cities in a bid to foster economic growth and prosperity. In each city region the project will targeted two broad categories of strategic investments such as Integrated urban services improvement and public urban space enhancements which enhancing the functional aspects of the city as well as the attractiveness and livability of the city.
